4 Signs of Damaged Hair

Unfortunately most people don't notice that their hair is damaged until it's broken off in their hand, on the floor, or on their pillowcase..

It doesn't have to get that dramatic before you can take action.

Here are some signs for you to look out for so you can get your hair back on track.

4 Signs of Damaged Hair

1. Excessive Shedding

Naturally we shed about 80 - 100 hairs a day. You can tell it's shedding because the strands will be about the length of your hair. If you haven't detangled your hair in a few days, there's going to be a few hundred strands when you finally get around to it.

You'll be the first to notice if your hair is shedding more than normal. Another clear sign is if you gently tug at the ends of your hair and a few strands come out. Several factors can lead to excessive shedding such as stress, hormones, heredity, and  a poor diet. Sometimes a simple shift in your lifestyle can restore not only your hair but your overall health. To assist you in these changes it's best to see your doctor.

2. Brittle Hair

Your hair should not feel like a Brillo Pad. If this is the case your hair is dry, brittle, and just one tug away from breaking off. Healthy curls are hydrated, soft, and flexible.

Start from the inside out and make sure you're drinking enough water. When your body is dehydrated, it pulls all the moisture right out of your hair to replenish itself. Then make sure you're washing, moisturizing, and sealing your hair on a CONSISTENT basis. I recommend cleansing your hair with a moisturizing shampoo and deep conditioner  every 7 - 10 days and using a leave in conditioner when needed.

3. Dry Scalp

Healthy hair starts at the scalp. If your scalp is dry, flaky or itchy, it's not providing the best environment for hair growth. Some causes for a dry scalp can be the weather, not washing your hair, or hair products that irritate your scalp.

To combat a dry scalp, use a clarifying shampoo to detox your hair and scalp from any product build up or irritants. Use a deep conditioner to penetrate long lasting moisture, and then massage a soothing oil into your scalp to seal and prevent inflammation.

4. Unmanageable Hair

Your hair is unmanageable if you have a hard time styling it due to frizz, split ends, and tangles. These are all signs that your hair is not healthy and needs some TLC.

This is the time to book an appointment for haircut or trim. Split ends are irreversible, so you need to cut them off before they run up the length of your hair. Or you'll have to chop off more later. You'll notice your hair will tangle less once you've cleaned up those ends.

To prevent split ends and eliminate frizz keep your hair moisturized by washing, conditioning and sealing your hair weekly.
