3 Habits That Are Thinning Out Your Hair

Thinning hair is more common than we think.

I get so many women in the salon who tell me, when they were younger their hair was so thick, or even just a few years ago.

Sometimes hair thinning is caused by health concerns such as stress, hormones, or medications. If you notice excessive hair shedding as well, you should consult your doctor or dermatologist for more help.

But more often than not, how we handle our hair on a daily basis is the reason for our thinning hair. Check out these common habits below and see if any apply to you and how to fix them.

3 Habits That are Thinning Out Your Hair

You're always wearing the same hairstyle

That tight puff or sleek bun you like to wear everyday is damaging your hair and snatching your edges. Consistent tension on your hair and scalp can cause breakage and lead to hair thinning.

If you can't part with these styles, try and switch up it up every so often, like moving that top bun to a low bun. Also remember to be gentle to your hairline as they're the most fragile. If you lay your edges everyday, they're undergoing excessive stress and accumulating a ton of product build up.

You're always protective styling

Do you jump from one protective style to the next without letting your hair breathe? This goes hand in hand with wearing the same tight style everyday, but worse because of the weight of added hair causing even more stress.

Not to mention, many women dry their hair out by never washing it when it's in a protective style. All these factors can lead to your hair thinning out. In order to keep your protective style working for you and not against you, wash your hair every 7- 10 days with a clarifying shampoo and deep conditioner. Also never wear your protective style longer than 6- 8 weeks to avoid matting and fungus.

You're not deep conditioning enough

Dry hair is not healthy. When your hair is dry it is prone to thinning and breakage.

I recommend using a deep conditioner that contains hydrating and strengthening ingredients. The Deep Repair Treatment is infused with keratin, a protein naturally found in our hair, to help strengthen and bulk up strands while restoring moisture.
