How to Take Care of Fine Curly Hair

Not all curly hair is thick and dense!

I personally have fine curly hair. When I straighten out my curls, I feel like Homer Simpson with his 4 hairs and scalp showing.

Fine haired curlies may find twist outs, bantu knots and other curly hairstyles to be a challenge because they lack the fullness like their favorite YouTuber or influencer.

But worry not my fellow fine hair friend. There is hope for our curls. Try out these tips below for fuller and happier fine hair.

How to Take Care of Fine Curly Hair

Shampoo more often

If you have fine hair, you should be shampooing more often than not. Product buildup and dirt can weigh your hair down making it look greasy and flat.

If let unaddressed, product build up will dry out fine strands and cause breakage. I recommend cleansing fine hair once a week with the Volume Shampoo to gently detox your hair of build up and other pollutants.

Deep condition with protein

Fine hair is more fragile than other textures making it prone to breakage. Using a deep conditioner with  protein will help repair damage, protect hair, and bulk up strands making it appear thicker. The Deep Repair Treatment infuses hair with natural keratin proteins and moisture for a 2 in 1 treatment that will replenish and protect fine hair.

Use light weight products

Choosing the right products is so important for fine hair. Heavy butters and oils can weigh down the hair and cause build up. When choosing products for fine hair always go light.

Light weight products contain water and are thin creams or spritzes that will absorb into the hair rather than sit on top. The Emergency Miracle Treatment is a great leave-in conditioner for fine hair to replenish moisture in between wash days or reset a style.

Shorter hair looks fuller

The longer your hair is the heavier it gets, making hair appear flatter. Shorter hairstyles will make fine hair look fuller. Try adding in some curls to pump up the volume.

Pick out your hair

Fine hair can look "scalpy" at times. To combat this, grab an afro pick and pick out the roots to add volume and cover up the scalp. For even fuller hair, forgo definition and use your fingers or a pick to further separate curls.
