5 Tips for Better Length Retention

Lately a lot of clients have been asking me how can they grow out their hair?

They say it seems like their hair has been stuck at a certain length for years.

Your hair is always growing even if it may not seem like it. The key to retaining length is all in how you consistently show up for your hair.

Use the tips below to help you build your healthy hair regimen for longer growing hair.

5 Tips for Better Length Retention

Treat Your Scalp

Healthy growing hair starts at the scalp. It's important to keep your scalp clean and free of product build up and other pollutants. Aim for shampooing your hair every 7-10 days with a moisturizing shampoo for lasting hydration.

At least once a month (or if you use a lot of hair product) use a clarifying shampoo to detox your hair and scalp to remove any build up that may be clogging your pores and causing dryness.

 Always Deep Condition

Deep conditioning maintains the moisture-protein balance in your hair that is needed for healthy growing hair. Deep conditioning also protects your hair from daily wear and tear, like styling or rubbing against your clothing.

The Deep Repair Treatment is infused with keratin protein to strengthen and protect your hair, while sunflower oil and malachite restores moisture.

Protect Your Hair at Night

The friction between your hair and your cotton pillowcase is causing dryness, frizz and breakage. Use either a satin bonnet, scarf or pillowcase to protect your hair at night and retain moisture.

Get a Trim

Split ends will setback all your progress and stunt your hair growth. The only way to get rid of split ends is to cut them off. If left untreated, the split will run up your healthy hair strand and cause damage.

Book a trim every three months or once a season. This will keep your ends strong, healthy and protected.

 Wear Protective Styles

The more you touch your hair, the more likely to cause damage. Protective and low manipulation styles will tuck away the ends of your hair and keep them from rubbing against rough surfaces and out of your hands.

Choose styles that require little to no daily maintenance. Buns, high puffs, twists and braids on natural hair are good low manipulation options.

For longer term, protective styles like wigs, weaves, braided or crocheted extensions will help maintain length. However, don't forget to continue to cleanse and care for your hair while in protective styles and never wear them longer than 8 -12 weeks.
