Moisturize and condition regularly

When you have multiple curl patterns, shrinkage and frizziness will draw the eye to the misbehaving hairs. Moisturized curls clump together uniformly and disguises different textures.

Curls thrive off of moisture, so it’s so important to maintain a good moisturizing and conditioning routine. To ensure that all your curls are well-hydrated, use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner on wash day at least once a week. A moisturizing deep conditioning treatment will not only ensure long lasting moisture, but nourish and soften your hair as well.

Layer your hair products

To seal in moisture and offer definition, try layering your hair products when styling. The LCO Method (leave-in, cream, oil) is great for managing multiple curl patterns. A leave in conditioner will keep hair hydrated, while a styling cream will provide definition and hold. Oil seals in all the moisture from the previous products and combats frizz.

Apply the products section by section, focusing on areas that need more definition or control.

Choose styles that create uniformity

To create uniform curls, show those struggle curls a bit more love by manually finger coiling the strands to help give them structure.

Twist-outs or braid-outs are also great options when styling multiple curl patterns. After cleansing, braid or twist your hair with a styling cream, then let your hair dry overnight. Undo the twists or braids to reveal defined, consistent curls.

Don’t forget to embrace the versatility and uniqueness of your hair, and feel free to customize your routine to suit each curl pattern. Experimentation and patience are key to finding what works best for you.
